Many times neurosurgical problems can be diagnosed in utero before a baby is born. Common diagnoses which can be made prenatally include:
- Spina Bifida
- Dandy Walker
- Arachnoid or Intracranial Cysts
- Other congenital disorders that may require surgery
It is often difficult to predict exactly what the outcome will be for many of these problems especially given the rapid changes that are occurring at such an early age as well as the broad range of possible outcomes. Dr. Osterdock is more that happy to meet with families before the baby is born to discuss the possible outcomes as well as the treatment options. It is often helpful to at least meet the team prior to a baby’s birth so that the procedures and options are not as overwhelming after the baby is born. We welcome any questions that you have and always suggest that you write your questions down prior to your visit as this can be helpful in this difficult and emotional time.
